Strawberry festival commenced on 19th March,2025 under Krishi Swarna Samriddhi Week by ICAR KVK, Ri-Bhoi in collaboration with ATMA, Directorate of Horticulture, Agriculture, Govt of Meghalaya at Umktieh village of Ri-Bhoi District. This festival was held in order to motivate, attract and retain scientific agriculture by the farmers, farm women and rural youths in the district for enhancing their income and livelihood. The event was graced by Shri Isynei Hinge, Hon’ble MDC, Umroi constituency, Dr.B.P.Singh, PS & Head, DTAC,ICAR, Dr.M.Islam, PS & Head, KVK, Ri-Bhoi, Dr. H .Rymbai, Sr. Scientist, DSRE,ICAR,SMS of KVK, Ri-Bhoi, Shri Mightystar Lyngdoh DPD, ATMA, Nongpoh, Secretary, Shri.Richard of Umktieh village. Dr.Meghna Sarma, SMS, Agronomy, Organising Secretary highlighted the overview of strawberry festival under KSSW and coordinated the event which featured various lectures from Chief guests & Dignitaries addressing horticultural development, modern farming practices in order to push the local business hubs in rural areas which will enhance the visibility of the district and encourage to focus on agripreneurship with high value crops. The programme followed by distribution of quality seeds of summer vegetables to the farmers. The event saw significant participation of around 75 farmers from 5 villages during the festival. Additionally, an exhibition showcasing strawberry processed products were displayed by SHG’s of Umktieh village. The programme ended with vote of thanks from Mrs.Jessica ,Technical Officer, ICAR-KVK, Ri-Bhoi.
